#1507 is a public school. Its type is Gymnasium (i.e. school with
diversified specialized learning). In Ukraine there is an 11-grades
educational system. When a student enters our high school (that
actually starts from 8th grade) he/she should chose one of four
different types of specialization: Math-Physics, Classic Languages,
Biology-Chemistry and History-Economics. Math-Physics specialization
is considered to be the most challenging and demanding.
Ukrainian educational system consists of core (non-electoral)
subjects. In our Classic School the new prospective system is used
when all subjects are non-electoral, but within a specialization
which is, in case, a matter of choice. The language of our institution
is Ukrainian.
Our Secondary School has a competitive entrance that
has increased the quality of the students. Our students are constant
winners of different Olympiads (i.e. academic competitions) on district,
regional and country level. The greatest success achieved in Economic
Geography, Math, Physics, English, Chemistry, Biology, Ukrainian
and Law.
The School has 5 points grading system ("5"
is equal to "A" in the United States). We do not have
GPA and ranks. Students who graduate from 10th and 11th grades with
"5" marks only get a special honor called "the gold
medal". Those who have one or two "4" marks get "the
silver medal". The percentage of the students with gold medals
is up to 10% in our institution while the Ukrainian average is less
that 5%. About 95% of our graduating students enter colleges/universities
(the average in Ukraine is about 70%). Most students usually enter
leading Ukrainian and Russian universities (Kiev-Mohylla Acadamy,
Kiev State University, Moscow State University, etc.).
Classic School #1507 has a friend-school Sophie-Scholl-Gymnasium
in Oberhausen, Germany. We have a cultural exchange program with
that school.
Our faculty consists of the well-educated professionals
who often participate in different programs and win grants.
